Just days after Ford introduced its new delivery robot, Digit, to the world, Amazon confirmed at the Re:Mars conference in Las Vegas that they will introduce drone-deliveries in the coming months.
According to Amazon, the drones will start making deliveries before the end of the year. However, a date of release was not confirmed. The drones will also boast an “ingenious hexagonal hybrid design.”
The drone is packed full of sensors and computing modules, which will not only keep the drone safe, but the Amazon cargo as well. That is, they’ll be equipped with optical, thermal and ultrasonic sensors.
The drone will use a combination of the sensors, thermal cameras and sonar to detect and avoid hazards. In addition, the onboard computers will be able to automatically identify obstacles with the help of machine learning models.
