Police use drone to watch over area as parents pick up kids after ‘safety concerns’ at Martinsville schools

CLARK COUNTY, Ill. (WTHI) – Police in Clark County, Illinois are releasing more information after school officials in Martinsville were forced to delay the dismissal of students.

On Thursday, posts on the Martinsville Elementary School and Martinsville Junior and Senior High School Facebook pages said: “Due to a safety concern, dismissal is delayed. We will update as soon as we can.”

Statement from Martinsville Elementary School

“Due to a safety concern, Martinsville Police Department had students at Martinsville Elementary to shelter in place until the area was deemed safe by Martinsville Police Department and the Clark County Sheriff’s Department.

Shortly before dismissal, students reported seeing a stranger in the area north of the playground in a field. Those students followed safety directions by alerting staff members. Staff had all students, staff and parents enter and stay in the building until an all clear was determined by law enforcement to ensure the safety of everyone.
