Missing Grand Haven man likely drove into river shortly after he last was seen

MUSKEGON COUNTY, MI – A Grand Haven man whose body was recovered from the Muskegon River Tuesday evening is believed to have driven into the water not long after he was last seen three days earlier, police said.

The body of Jeffery Steven Scarbrough, 29, of Grand Haven was found in his submerged vehicle May 14, according to a new release issued by Grand Haven Public Safety Director Jeff Hawke.

The vehicle was in the river near the Creston Road boat launch in Muskegon Township, according to the news release.

Hawke told MLive/Muskegon Chronicle it’s believed Scarbrough’s vehicle entered the river late Saturday afternoon.

The public safety department sought the public’s help in locating Scarbrough, who last had been seen at the Chase Hammond golf course around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11. The golf course is in Muskegon County’s Dalton Township, and police said Scarbrough
