Tiburon is considering a ban on drone flyovers at local schools after an incident last month at Reed Elementary School.
“It’s unnerving,” said Reed Union School District Superintendent Nancy Lynch, of the incident that occurred during the school day on March 21. “You don’t know who it is, and you don’t know their intent.”
Lynch said the incident occurred when school staff texted her that they saw a drone flying over the school campus, possibly in the play area. It was not clear if any children were outside at the time, she said. No one was injured or directly affected, but staff immediately contacted Tiburon police. When the drone disappeared and staff couldn’t find the operator, they called off the police response.
“We took a report of suspicious activity,” Tiburon police Chief Mike Cronin said Monday. “But before we got there, it was canceled.”
Lynch said she will ask the district board of trustees
