Ottawa County deputy honored for service

Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Shawn James was awarded the Outstanding Customer Service Award by the county for the year’s second quarter.

James volunteered to help a Coopersville Area Public Schools special needs student earn a Boy Scouts Eagle Award. James helped the student raise money to purchase a handicap-accessible merry-go-round for the Coopersville Area District Library and volunteered to oversee the installation of the merry-go-round.

“James displayed a positive work ethic and a great deal of professionalism during this project,” his nominator wrote. “I commend Deputy Shawn James for going above and beyond in his service to the residents of Ottawa County.”

James has been employed by the county for 23 years and also volunteers at his church.

 “When someone wants help and I can facilitate that, it’s a great feeling,” James said. The things I like most working for the county are my coworkers
