A spokesman for BTP said: “At the beginning of August, BTP started to trial the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (drones) for six months.
“The trial, which sees a number of officers trained to use the technology, will allow BTP to use the drones in incidents ranging from locating vulnerable people to tracing offenders.
“It gives officers a ‘birds eye view’ of incidents to aid commanders in their decision making, as the images will be streamed live back to the control room.
“The drones are also fitted with the ability to fly and film at night, so will be available around the clock.
“The drones will be available for pre-planned operations across the country.”
