Police use drone to watch over Ashby following World Cup anti-social behaviour

Police used a drone to keep a watchful ‘eye in the sky’ over Ashby following an upsurge in anti-social behaviour during the World Cup.

The drone was used due to public disorder in the area around England’s World Cup games, and officers were concerned there would be more incidents following the side’s semi-final exit to Croatia.

Assistant Chief Constable Jason Masters, of Leicestershire Police, posted a picture of the drone on social media during its flight on Wednesday, July 11, in case residents were wondering what it was for, he said.

Writing at around 10.54pm, he said: “Leicestershire Police drones keeping communities safe in Ashby.”

A spokesman for Leicestershire Police clarified why the drone had been used.
