DEADWOOD — With various other measures exhausted in the search for a Spearfish man missing for more than two weeks, law enforcement has implemented the use of a drone to hunt the “hot spot” area in Deadwood that 28-year-old Chrisopher Oien’s cell phone last pinged from.
“A drone search will be conducted with the assistance of the South Dakota Highway Patrol,” said Deadwood Police Chief Kelly Fuller Tuesday. “We’re planning on flying over the search area and to hopefully expand into other areas.”
The drone will cover an area that extends from the Days of ’76 Rodeo Grounds across the street to the brown rocks area to the top of Burnham Avenue to Starr Street and Spring Creek Street and down.
“It will give us an aerial view of the area, as the drone camera will hopefully fly into areas that are difficult to access, due to terrain,” Fuller said.
