NY State Police launch statewide drone program – WKTV.com

The New York State Police are launching an unmanned aerial system program throughout the state.

Unmanned aerial systems, or drones, are going to be used by state police for a variety of purposes, such as traffic safety, disaster response, traffic re-constructions and documenting crime scenes.

By using drones, police are able to save time and money, as well as stay out of harm’s way.

“The evolution of technology has come to the point where it’s available, it’s affordable and it’s a very efficient means of getting an aerial observation platform up in the sky in a timely manner,” said New York State Police Capt. Scott Reichel.

Nine out of the 11 state police troop headquarters throughout the state have unmanned aerial systems at their disposal.
