Thieves caught on camera stealing drones from Aurora store

AURORA, Colo. — Police are searching for two men who tried stealing three drones from a Remote Control Hobbies store on Monday afternoon, the Aurora Police Department said.

The thieves are seen on surveillance video walking around the store at 15450 East Smoky Hill Road looking at remote control cars and planes.

Within about five minutes, they head to a front display, featuring the popular “Phantom” drone series. The men then pick up three boxes and run out the front door. Two employees ran after them.

“Chris [an employee] actually managed to knock one of the items they tried stealing out of their hands,” said Andrew Jones, the store’s manager.

The employee prevented that item, valued at $800, from being stolen. One of the other boxes was completely empty; it was just used for display. The thieves did get away with a Phantom 4, which cost $1,400.
